The Benefits of Lavender for Hair

At Hair Food, our mission is to help you look and feel your best, using only the ingredients you need, and nothing that you don’t. One of the ingredients we love is lavender, and you should, too. That’s right, lavender is no longer just for helping you fall asleep. Turns out, it not only smells great but can also feed your locks the nourishment they need. So, don’t sleep on the benefits of lavender for your hair!

Why Use Lavender for Hair

Lavender is most often found in oil form. Lavender oil can act as a barrier, often protecting your strands from hot tool damage or extreme weather conditions. In addition, the weight of the oil will likely help you cut down on frizz.

Another form of lavender that can be used on your hair is lavender water. Spraying a little lavender water solution on damp hair can give your strands a softer, more hydrated look and feel. It doesn’t hurt that you’ll smell great, too.

How to Use Lavender for Hair

You can apply diluted lavender oil directly to the scalp before washing or apply it to damp hair after washing. Just dilute the lavender oil using equal parts of a carrier oil, like coconut or jojoba oil. Massage the lavender/carrier serum into your scalp and leave for 5-10 minutes or overnight, then rinse. You can also incorporate lavender using a lavender water solution. All you’ll need are the essentials: lavender and water. Yep, that’s all. See why we love it? To make lavender water, you’ll start by making a tea, boiling some lavender in water, then straining the lavender. Once it’s cooled, add the lavender water to a spray bottle for easy application. For an added ant-frizz boost, throw in a few drops of lavender oil to the spray bottle. After that, store your solution in the fridge to keep it preserved and use as often as needed, brushing it through damp, washed hair.

Other simple ways to incorporate lavender oil into your haircare are to add a few drops to your everyday products, like hair masks, shampoo, conditioner and detangling sprays.
